The government is ready to allocate more resources to the education sector, Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariawasam says.
Institutions responsible for service delivery must be more efficient
and focus on taking the results of reforms to the school level where the
children are the real beneficiary, the minister notes.
He was
speaking at a meeting where Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkara was inducted as
the new Director-General of the National Institute of Education.
Also
present on the occasion were Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva, Director of
Drugs Control Authority, Upali Marasinghe, Secretary of Education, and
S.U. Wijeratne, Additional Secretary of Education.
Prior to the
event, the Minister of Education, the State Minister of Education, the
Secretary of the Ministry opened the new building complex for the South
Asian Centre for Education Development and Research at Meepe.
